M stands for Money.. and Modi.. And Menace!
Money is what it raked in, by the millions.
Modi is who controls every little bit of it - it being both, IPL and the funds - and who should ideally stand up and be counted if there is any kinda screw-up this year.
Everything points to the fact that one has to exercise caution..
Last year, there were blasts during the IPL. No.. I am not saying the blasts were connected to the game in any way, but any such incident during an event of this magnitude logically and logistically connects them both!
So, in May 08, there was an explosion in Jaipur, one of the cities hosting IPL fixtures.. and some more blasts in July that year. These were high-intensity blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad on July 25th and 26th respectively. 54 people died and more than 200 ended up injured. On 27th July, there was an explosion in Surat.
Three consecutive days, three quite large & important cities.
The audacity of those responsible. And the immaculate planning. And, it was as if they were looking at each Indian in the eye, telling each one of us what they can do.
Later on, they proved it all over again.. Like we had forgotten it the first few times around..
26/11 and the mayhem left many people scarred and poorer.. poorer in patience, at least.
And if one takes into account the attack on the Lankan cricketers, you know exactly where they will hit..
At places and times that make headlines across the world. An inauguration, a conference, a seminar, a sporting event..
One would imagine that these times are the best times for these crooks to get publicity for whatever causes that they are fighting for.
Thus 2009 will be a challenge - and it is a perfect time for the Islamic dogs to strike. Elections.. IPL..
So what does Modi go ahead and do?
Sell out. Transfer what is known as the INDIAN Premiere League to South Africa.
Hah! Totally emanating from the love of cricket? Total nonsense! Its the damn smell of greenbacks that made Modi do this.
And let us not even ask whether Lalit Modi will be able to look at himself in the mirror, having carved up such a deal..
Am pretty sure that when he sees himself in a mirror, he sees himself covered in currency notes, irrespective of what he is wearing then.
And now that this South African deal has been cracked, I am sure that every time he looks into that mirror, he sees an extra wad of notes erect right where it is apt for being stroked!
